K-9 Division
The LPD canine unit is comprised of six K9 teams, supervised by a Lieutenant, and trained by a certified K9 team trainer/instructor. After initial training, Lawrence Police Department canine teams receive monthly in-service training, honing the handler/K9 relationship, and maintaining their operational proficiency.
- Officer Stuart Bishop- Canine Justice is a 3.5-year-old “Maliherd” (Malinois/Shepherd mix), and has been with the department just over 2 years, trained in patrol and drug detection.
- Officer Adam Hazelwood- Canine Chedo is an 8-year-old Czech Shepherd, and has been with the department for 7 years, trained in patrol and drug detection.
- Officer Tyler Morgan- Canine Tayson is a 6-year-old German Shepherd, and has been with the department for 4 years, trained in drug detection.
- Officer Michele Stewart- Canine Xanti is a 4-year-old German Shepherd, and has been with the department for 2 years, trained in explosive/firearm detection and drug detection.
- Officer Aaron Clegg- Canine Max is a 4-year-old German Shepherd, and has been with the department for 2 years, trained in patrol.
- Sergeant Brandon Raftery – Canine Niko is a 7.5 year old Labrador retriever, and has been with the department for 6 years, trained in explosive/firearm detection.
