Deputy Chief Jim Hardie manages the daily operations of LFD and supervises the division and battalion chiefs, fire and EMS personnel, fire stations and apparatus. Jim is also responsible for the Emergency Response Planning for the city. He resides in Indianapolis and has two children, Alexi and Brayden. A graduate of Lawrence North High School, he has attended a journalism institute at Indiana University along with the Supervisory Institute at the University of Indianapolis, as well as several courses through the National Fire Academy. Jim has served LFD through the ranks for the past 30 years; as battalion chief, he supervised firefighters for 16 years.

Jim holds certifications as an Emergency Medical Technician, department instructor, Fire Officer, Safety Officer, Rope Rescue, Technical Rescue, Hazardous Materials, Fire Prevention and Inspection and former NAUI/DRI Diver/Dive Master and Dive Commander. He also served on the original Marion County Recue Task Force and Indiana Task Force 1.

His time off is spent enjoying travel and high school soccer with his daughter and watching his son perform in the school band, fishing, and golf.
